The imposter syndrome can ruin a life, hinder certain moments, or even, paradoxically, thrust someone into the spotlight. When observing this phenomenon, it is notable that this syndrome often affects individuals with a very high level of competence. The tragedy lies in the fact that this lack of self-confidence prevents them from realizing their full potential.
One of the solutions often suggested to overcome this syndrome is self-compassion. However, this approach sometimes seems ineffective, particularly because those affected often have very high standards for themselves. This self-imposed pressure can block any possibility of self-compassion, leaving them in an endless quest to achieve the best version of themselves according to their own criteria.
Another solution involves seeking external validations, that is, confirmations from others to reinforce their sense of competence. While this method appears to work in many cases, it remains problematic in that it depends on the approval of others to validate one’s own worth. That said, given that human beings are inherently social creatures, it is understandable that this search for external recognition is part of their nature.
